When you’re on the road, you would meet the most interesting people. They might be commoners to the local area, but they would definitely be special to a visitor like you. I’m a big fan of talking to people when I travel. I don’t always do it since I don’t like to force unnecessary conversations. I start one when one is meant to happen. And usually, when it does, I’m always entertained (I think I drowned in...

Looking at past pictures are fun, aren’t they? I’ve always enjoyed reminiscing the good times I’ve traveled Indonesia, especially ones I don’t have memory of… Heehee. One of them was this. As some might remember, the VW is called Puspita.

Baduy people are the strongest people I've encountered by far. This is Haswan, the child of our guide/porter, Mr. Erwin, on our trip to Baduy Luar and Baduy Dalam villages last weekend. He voluntarily hiked (yes, hiked!) with us as a porter and carrying this 10ish kg bags in total. With no shoes nor sandals. Gulping only a little water. No complaining, walking up and down the hill for 6 straight hours, only stopping to give us time to breathe. He's a champion...

I’ve met a few foreign travelers while roaming Indonesia and from these encounters I’ve realize the importance of travelers knowing a few local words. Not only does it help communication of information, it also helps bridge emotional connection with the locals. To the least, your effort in trying to spreken the lingo will bring a smile to the native. “Nice try, buster!” they’ll think....

I almost shouted my head off when I saw the square plastic canister filled with moving faces on them. I wanted to scream because:

    1) I’ve never seen such things,

    2) it’s entertaining,

    3) it’s neat art, and

    4) Man, humans are cruel!

It’s interesting how traveling has become something that’s more of a trend than something that people do just because. I’ve talked to and heard more and more people talking about traveling as their passion and how they claim as travelers when in reality I see them..well, just talking about it, or read and tweet about it, yet take vacations once or twice a year, with each trip no more than a week long, when I know they actually could afford the long journey....

Of the 9 years I've been living in the city, only a few months ago I found out about one of Jakarta's special delicacies from a friend of mine who contributed this picture, a Betawi descendant (the original Jakartans). It's called 'babanci', which means something like 'bisexual', referring to the taste that resembles several other foods (like curry, soto, or gulai), as a result of combining so many kinds of spice and ingredients like beef, coconut milk,...

Although I have already stated that Ojegs are my transportation of choice, I must admit I have a soft spot for Becaks. Becak is a bicycle kind of contraption made to transport 1 person or more depending how well you can pack yourselves in one. Because it’s a cycling device, the driver basically cycles you around. It’s similar to...
